Infineon launches first 100V AEC-qualified GaN transistor

News
Company has started supplying samples of pre-production CoolGaN automotive product range

Infineon has introduced its first GaN transistor family qualified to the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) standard for automotive applications.

The company is launching the CoolGaN Automotive transistor 100V G1 family for production and has started supplying samples of its pre-production product range qualified to AEC-Q101, including high-voltage (HV) CoolGaN Automotive transistors and bidirectional switches.

Johannes Schoiswohl, head of the GaN Business Line at Infineon said: “Our 100V GaN auto transistor solutions and the upcoming portfolio extension into the high-voltage range are an important milestone in the development of energy-efficient and reliable power transistors for automotive applications."

Demand for using GaN cars is growing with new features such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), new climate control and infotainment systems requiring higher power and more efficient conversion solutions.

Infineon says that its new CoolGaN family is particularly suited for applications such as zone control & main DC-DC converters, high-performance auxiliary systems, and Class D Audio amplifiers.
