SK Siltron to close Michigan SiC fab
Compamy cites 'market conditions' as the reason for closing its doors
The Korean company SK Siltron has announced it is winding down its Michigan SiC plant, citing 'market conditions' as the reason for closing its doors, affecting all 140 employees on site within the next 60 days.
In an article on the Michigan Public NPR website, SK Siltron spokesman Joe Guy Collier is quoted as saying the company originally expanded manufacturing in the US to meet what was then growing customer demand for a specialised product used in electric vehicles. “Significant changes in the EV market have created sustained challenges for the SiC wafer business,” said Collier.
The company paid off the loan last week.
