MSI to use Rohm EcoGan for AC adapter

News
High-efficiency, compact AC adapter uses integrated GaN-based power stage

Rohm has announced that its EcoGaN power stage IC has been adopted in the AC adapter for MSI’s products, including gaming laptops.

Rohm's BM3G005MUV-LB power stage IC integrates a 650V GaN HEMT, gate driver, protection features, and peripheral components into a single package, enabling optimal GaN HEMT performance just by replacing conventional silicon MOSFETs.

The AC adapter, developed by Delta Electronics for MSI, a maker of power management solutions, integrates Rohm’s EcoGaN power stage IC BM3G005MUV-LB, which features high-speed switching operation and low ON resistance.

With wide input voltage range 2.5V to 30V, it can be combined with any controller IC. The IC is designed to adapt major exist controllers, so that it also can be used to replace the traditional discrete power switches, such as Super Junction MOSFET.

Red Lin, general manager, Edge Computing Power Business Unit, Delta Electronics: “The combination of Delta’s state-of-the-art power supply solutions and Rohm’s EcoGaN power stage IC has enabled high power delivery, optimal energy efficiency, and miniaturization in this AC adapter for gaming laptops. We are proud that this solution has been adopted in MSI’s products, a globally recognized brand. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Rohm, a company with strong expertise in GaN technology, to ultimately provide customers with Delta’s next-generation of energy-efficient power solutions.”

Satoru Nate, division manager, power GaN solutions and product development division, Rohm said:“Delta Electronics and Rohm have long collaborated in the field of power systems. We are delighted that this adoption reflects the successful integration of Delta’s power design expertise with Rohm’s power device development, manufacturing, and analogue power supply technologies."
